Reduced IMOG Registration Fee for EAOG Student Members
To make EAOG membership more appealing for students we have agreed with the organisers of the 24th IMOG in Bremen this September to offer a significantly discounted registration fee for EAOG student members (student members will pay 80€ less than non-members). Part of this discount has been realised through sponsorship from EAOG (40€ per student). This EAOG sponsorship is a trial, which will be evaluated after IMOG 2009.
We encourage all students to consider joining the EAOG before registering for IMOG 2009. Please do so early, as it may take some time to get the application processed and you will be asked for membership details (Elsevier "Customer Reference" number) on the IMOG 2009 registration page.
Supervisors - If you think that this is an interesting offer, please tell your students!
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the Membership Secretary, Anthony Lewis.

Call for Candidates for EAOG Board Membership
In September 2009, the second term of two of the EAOG Board members (Lewis and González-Vila) will end and, as they are not eligible for re-election, new members have to be elected. The Board is nominating two candidates – Ian D. Bull and José A. González-Pérez (biographies attached) – for the open positions, but in accord with the Articles of EAOG, other candidates can also stand for election, providing their nomination is supported by seven EAOG members and include a declaration by the candidate that she or he is prepared to serve as a member of the Board. The candidate should also supply a short biography and, optionally, a short election address, both together not exceeding one page.
In case of nominations in addition to those from the Board, the established procedure requires that election to the Board be by ballot of the EAOG membership. Ballot forms will be sent by e-mail during July 2009 and will also be available on the website. Members not receiving a ballot form should contact the Secretary. The results will be made public at the EAOG General Assembly in Bremen in September 2009. The term of new Board members will be for four years, with re-election being possible once.
If there are no additional nominations to those of the Board, there will be no ballot and the Board’s nominees will be elected during the General Assembly.
Nominations must be received by the EAOG secretary not later than 30th June 2009 at the following address (preferably by e-mail):
Dr Philippe Schaeffer
Laboratoire de Biogéochimie Moléculaire, UMR 7177 du CNRS
Institut de Chimie de Strasbourg
E.C.P.M., 25 rue Becquerel
67200 Strasbourg, France

EAOG Travel Awards Increased in Value
The Board of EAOG is pleased to announce that the maximum value of a Travel Award is now €5,000 (increased from €3,500). EAOG is able to do this thanks to the generous sponsorship of the following companies:
Chevron
Geoservices
Schlumberger
Shell
The new travel awards will be known by the name of the sponsoring company.
We hope that this will encourage more students to apply for the awards, terms and conditions for which can be found on our Awards Page
